For first time in this championship two teams of the same nationality played the final, and it was two Spanish teams, Real Madrid and Valencia.

Valencia had played an awesome championship, playing against the big teams of Europe : Bayern Munchen, PSV, Manchester United, Fiorentina, Lazio, Barcelona,... and that way they were facing the most important game of their history, having the chance of winning their first European Cup

Maybe Real Madrid had more problems in the second round, but their unforgetable performances against Manchester and Bayern in quarter of final and semifinal gave them the chance of being in this final.

The game was played in Paris, in Saint Denis Stadium, the 24th of May of 2000. Real Madrid had the run of the play for the whole game and Valencia payed their lack of experience, and won with a 3-0. Goals of Morientes, McManaman and Raul.
